F.D.I.A. Awareness Activist Gypsy Rose Blanchard Announces Pregnancy

By Nicholas Scribner
July 9, 2024

Within the last hour, I learned from a New York Times article posted on Facebook that factitious disorder imposed on another (formerly known as Munchausen syndrome by proxy) awareness activist and author Gypsy Rose Blanchard announced her pregnancy. Though I'd never heard of Ms. Blanchard until today, my family has this rare mental disorder, and I am their victim.

I believe I found out about Munchausen syndrome by proxy shortly before leaving home and eventually becoming a resident at Harriet Tubman Center East in December 2017 (see a self-portrait I took in my room with my laptop). It wasn't until April 2019, however, that I first registered the domain name munchausensyndromebyproxy.org after leaving home again and finding housing on an emergency basis at Bailey Hall on the University of Minnesota's St. Paul campus. (I registered the domain name again within the last hour.) Over a year ago, I also registered factitiousdisorderimposedonanother.com, which is what the disorder is currently called in the "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition" (D.S.M.-5).

Though there are many differences between Ms. Blanchard and me (and I haven't read the entire New York Times or Wikipedia articles yet), there is one important difference I'd like to highlight: She was convicted of conspiring to kill her mom, but I have never attempted to murder or seriously injure anyone in my entire life.

It's been over a year since I've been to a hospital for a factitious mental disorder. I was last hospitalized at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank West Building, which is affiliated with my alma mater. While in their psychiatric emergency department, the staff, including at least one psychiatrist, said they wanted to send me back home, but my mom refused to let me back in our house. The reason I was there in the first place? My mom called 911 because I made an involuntary movement and merely touched one of my dad's walkers. My mom, however, told law enforcement and the medical professionals that I was "destroying furniture."

The most traumatic moments of my life were when my brother, Marc, ambushed, beat, and attempted to murder me by strangulation for approximately 20 seconds on the night of December 30, 2012—my dad's 54th birthday. He and my parents lied to the Carver County Sheriff's Office when they arrived at our house, and no one in my family was ever arrested. More recently, since at least early 2023, my parents have been poisoning me with hard water in my bathroom. I even switched to taking showers in our guest bathroom for some time, but my parents then started poisoning that shower, too. I have contacted the F.B.I. about my situation with the water, and I was told by a plumber recently that my bathroom must not be hooked up to the water softener.

For now, I'm trying to get a job and move to Maine. If you're reading this post, please contact the F.B.I. headquarters at (202) 324-3000 and simply ask them to help me. You have no idea how much good you would be doing for this one random act of kindness.
